Calls-To-Action
(aka What Do I Do Right Now?)
Here are some of my favorite places for keeping up with the most pressing issues. Many of them offer sign-ups so you can get alerts on your phone, and/or daily/weekly emails.
Also: a reminder that many (all?) of these are grassroots efforts begun by a handful of individuals. Many of them might appreciate donations to maintain their efforts.

Local Legislation for Arizonans: AZ Legislature Update
Tips for Calling Your Reps
Call The Halls Guide - from Emily Ellsworth (who worked for Congress for six years)
How to more effectively have your voice heard by your representatives.
Tip one: calling is better than emailing, which is better than petitioning (which does virtually nothing).
It's Time To Fight (A guide by someone who has worked for Congress for 16 years)
A really great, and constantly updated resource with weekly action items and call scripts.
ONLY Call Your Own Reps!!!
Your opinions will not be recorded if you are out of district! Provide your zip code with every call. If you have an out-of-state cell, tell them that. Calling people that aren't your reps will only clog their phone lines, and fill up their voiceboxes and your message will not be recorded.

This Week's Good News
Voices to Listen To / Follow
The civil rights movements against racism, sexism, homophobia and xenophobia began long ago, and many -- particularly people of color -- have been active and vocal for many, many years. It's important to listen to them.
News Sources
Many of us already follow the NYT, CNN, ProPublica, and Washington Post. Here are some other excellent voices, some of them quite marginalized in our society.
Get them delivered to your inbox, like them on FB, add them to the news app on your phone.

*You may be wondering why Teen Vogue is on this list. This year, a black woman became the editor-in-chief, and she has made the new mission of the magazine to bring political and social justice commentary to teens. The reporting there has been excellent ever since.
People to Follow
Twitter is my social media platform of choice, because it's where writers hang out. But it's also a great place for those interested in activism and social justice, so if you're not on Twitter already, you may want to check it out.
